On August 11, the Khmer Organic Cooperative (KOC), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, GIZ and the Head of Cooperation of the German Embassy, Dr. Ludgera Klemp, celebrated the 1st EU certified Organic Farm in Cambodia. In 2015, KOC was selected out of several applicants to enter a development partnership with 2 GIZ projects, namely the “Standards in the Southeast Asian Food Trade” (SAFT) and the “ASEAN Sustainable Agrifood Systems” (ASEAN-SAS). KOC is capable to implement organic practices and inspire other farmers to become certified, and apply safer and environmentally friendlier practices. Two organic demonstration farms have been established and certified according to the EU organic standard. A project on palm juice is currently at the pre-audit stage and will soon also acquire certification on food safety.
